About
The
Album
|
An odd album. Its like a one CD "White Album", where nearly every song is in a different style and a lot of different moods flow through the album. I guess what I was doing was experimenting and just enjoying making the music primarily - I put it together as an album later.
So "Union Songs" are a group of songs that aren't really united at all. Except for the middle trio of "Lions", "Ever Wonder" and "Sand" (a different version from the "Free Spirit" one) which have the same straightforward rock sound, and pointed the way towards the music on "Rise". "Lions" here is the second recording of that song, but the original arrangement, which I always thought was pretty good. "Ever Wonder" was also played in the Texas Galaxy days quite a bit.
Otherwise it ranges from psychedelic drone rock ("Moonhoneyflower") to acoustic folk ("Sunday Afternoon") and incorporates moody downbeat tracks like "Glance" and "Leaves On The Trees Falling Down". I enjoy the variation and am surprised each time by the guitars on "Red Moon" as I have no idea how I did them and don't think I'd be able to do it again even if I wanted to.
There isn't one track which sums up the album which I think is a good thing in this case.
