About
The
Album
|
“Single songs” rather than “singles”. I often record stand-alone songs outside of the particular project I am working on at that time; songs that don’t fit onto that album, or have no place on any of my other albums. I had a lot of these songs lying around so I figured I’d compile them on this page as independent tracks.
So with these songs it is anything goes – all the different styles I do are covered, as well as some styles I don’t normally do. A lot are instrumentals, and a lot of them are exercises in different genres – for example, “Gaze” is a Smashing Pumpkins pastiche, “Head In The Clouds” a commercial sounding pop/rock track, “Mr Jones Says Hello” a homage to Air, etc. "Ian Brown" is just an instrumental that to me sounds like, well...an Ian Brown track.
These are often great fun to do, and its always good to work outside of your usual idioms, you can do different things and play around a lot more. So these songs shouldn't be viewed as "outtakes" (which are normally songs not good enough to put on albums) but more as "singles", without the weight of expectation normally attached to that tag.
As I record these types of songs I’ll be adding them on to this page, so this is not a static “album” as such, more a continuing project. Sometimes I’ll just get the urge to do something unusual, and where before I would think "now what?", at least with this page I have somewhere to put them.
