"Painted In The Sky" is the last of the more acoustic-based albums I've made and is probably my favourite of all. It has a slightly psychedelic feel and I've really been influenced by late 60's production styles and I think it comes to fruition here. Purely from a production point of view I think this album rates higher than the others.
Song-wise some of them are pretty out there, and fairly inventive - like the middle section of "Sleep On The Floor", or the whole of "Farewell, To Our Shining Sun God". The whole album has a very light, floaty, airy feel and flows very nicely. Its worth getting the whole thing rather than picking out a few songs so I would recommend the two previously mentioned along with "Waiting For The Rain", "Skywards" and "Before We Go Asleep". I think "Sing Rain" got played on the radio once, as it was a single for a while in Tower Records (self released of course).
I made it at the home studio along with all the others, using only two guitars (one electric, one acoustic), bass and my knackered old drum kit.
This album probably took the mellow sound as far as it could go, hence the decision to record something totally different for the next album - "Rise".
