About
The
Album

Geisha is a project I’ve been working on since about 2004, although with a lot more effort and commitment than the others. I suppose the music I make as Geisha is the third proper tier, after Texas Galaxy and the “solo” stuff.

It is ambient, non-linear music, very much influenced by Brian Eno, Susumu Yokota, John Cage, Stockhausen, musique concrete, and other experimental "dance" music like the Orb or Aphex Twin. Its mostly based around some kind of heavily treated guitar motif, with other elements brought in from other guitar sounds, some deep basses, choral and orchestral samples, heavy echoes and so forth. Only one or two tracks actually have any beats; the majority source their rhythms from the ebb and flow of the music.

I released an EP to Road Records in 2007 which featured "Intention", "Sequence", "Seven" and "Serenade" (probably the four best tracks). They gave it a great write up, and here's what they said: "Fans of the ambient glitchy soundscapes of the likes of Christian Fennesz, Brian Eno and Susumu Yokoto will instantly fall in love with this understated little gem of an EP. There is some lovely slide guitar sounds thrown over the top of this totally dreamlike sound to create one of the finest Irish collections of ambient electronic music; really, really superb stuff and well worth your attention."

Not bad! I enjoy doing these types of tracks, they take ages to construct but are a lot of fun to put together. I see myself doing more in the future.
